About The Artist

Imaginative...  Contemporary...  Original Artworks

Inspired by nature’s peace and beauty, and life’s joy generated by my friends and family, I create sculptures, which convey the excitement of life. Reflecting back to my boyhood memories of working on the farm, I enjoy incorporating old farm machinery parts into my sculptures.

I start with a cold gray piece of steel; twisting and turning the metal until it develops a personality of its own.  Although steel is often seen as rigid and industrial, the patina of my sculptures project a warm, soothing feeling that is at home when placed on the farm or in the garden.

When the image resonates with me, it is complete and I leave the sculpture to the elements to rust.  As the work slowly develops its warm patina from nature, I search for the meaning that has been transferred from my subconscious to the sculpture.

I enjoy the heat and power of using an oxygen/acetylene torch to create these sculptures and taking the industrial feel of steel and creating the image of flowing and carefree movement.  It is as much a journey for me to discover the meaning as it is to fabricate the steel into art.  It is my hope the viewer will enjoy their own journey when considering my sculptures.

Enjoy! - Peter Wood, Metal Sculptor
